Are you ready to get lost in the Fun
house?

Before we begin I feel it is only polite to introduce this blog and what I aim to achieve with it.

This blog aims to investigate to a small degree, the concept of Metafiction and more precisely just what it achieves. I will be doing this through three areas of study before applying them to John Barth's Lost in the Funhouse in an attempt to prove my theories regarding this topic. I also hope that this process will allow me, and anyone else along for the ride, to gain a deeper understanding of Metafiction as a style of writing.

So before I give you all a quick, but optional, overview of Lost in the Funhouse, (those of you who have already read it may wish to skip the overview), I feel it is necessary to introduce my areas of study I will be investigating with you:

Section 1: What is Metafiction and why should we care? An introductory discussion of the what, why, and how of Metafiction.

Section 2: 'Frames'. A slightly more complex discussion regarding the concept of 'Frames' and 'Frame
Stories' or 'Frame Narratives' within texts.

Section 3: 'Frame-Breaking'. A further topic regarding 'frames', this one discusses what happens when we don't adhere to the rules of 'framing' and what can be achieved by playing with the rules and 'reality' contained in these 'frames'.

Still eager to read on? I hope so because it's time for the overview of Lost in the Funhouse. Have fun.... try not to get too lost please, it reflects badly on me.
